History of Salasar Balaji Temple

Salasar Balaji Dham, located in the Churu district of Rajasthan is a highly revered religious destination for devotees from across India and is dedicated to Lord Hanuman –  Param Bhakta of Lord Shri Ram. The Idol was discovered in 1754 CE by a farmer of Asota Village, about 31 km from Salasar.  News of this discovery reached the Thakur (local ruler) who had a dream that night that ordered him to send the idol to Salasar. The idol was enshrined in Salasar and the temple is now known as Balaji Dham.

The original temple was constructed by Mohandas, an ardent devotee of Lord Hanuman who also had a dream about the discovery of the idol. The temple at that time was made of mud and stones. It was developed into what it is now, over a period of time. Presently it is a magnificent temple made mainly of marble with artistic gold and silver floral patterns and mosaics. The main gate is carved out of marble.

The unique feature of this temple is that the idol of Hanumanji has a round face with a mustache and beard. The temple is considered a Shakti-sthal and the idol a Swayambhu (Self Appeared). Many miracles have been witnessed here. A  traditional offering of ‘Savamani’ prasad (almost 50kg) is done here after a wish has been fulfilled.
