Grishneshwar Temple, located near the Ellora caves in Maharashtra is dedicated to Lord Shiva. A reference to this temple can be found in Shiv Purana. This temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlings in India. A Jyotirling is a self appeared pillar of light with no beginning and no end. The word Grishneshwar means ‘Lord of Compassion’. No Yagnas are done in this temple because it represents the Agni Tatva, one of the five elements of nature, besides water, air, earth and sky.
