A popular story is about the demon king Hiranyakashyap, who wanted everyone to worship him but his son Prahlad, refused for it and worshipped Lord Vishnu. When Hiranyakashyap came to know about it, he called his sister Holika and planned to punish his son. Holika sat on a bonfire with Prahlad to make him burn but she destroyed and Prahlad was saved.
