Rudrabhishekam - Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple

Rudrabhishekam is a powerful and sacred Vedic ritual performed at the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple to honor Lord Shiva in his Rudra form. Though the temple is primarily dedicated to Lord Narasimha, Rudrabhishekam is conducted to invoke Lord Shiva’s blessings for health, protection, and spiritual upliftment. During the ritual, the Shiva Lingam is bathed with sacred substances such as water, milk, honey, curd, ghee, sugar, and coconut water while chanting hymns from the Rudram and Chamakam. Rudrabhishekam begins with the purification of the puja area and Sankalpam, where the devotee’s name, gotra, and intent are stated. A Shiva Lingam is placed on a clean pedestal or Yagna Vedika. The priest then performs Ganapati Puja to remove obstacles. The abhishekam starts by offering sacred items one by one on the Shiva Lingam — water (Jalam), milk (Ksheeram), curd (Dadhi), honey (Madhu), ghee (Ghritam), sugar, coconut water, and Panchamrutam. As each item is poured, powerful mantras from the Sri Rudram and Chamakam are chanted, invoking Lord Shiva’s Rudra aspect. Flowers, Bilva leaves, sandal paste, and incense are also offered. The abhishekam concludes with the Aarti, Pradakshina, and distribution of prasadam. Devotees may also participate in chanting or silent meditation during the puja.
