Sahasra Namarchana - Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple

Sahasra Namarchana is a sacred evening ritual performed at the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, where the Lord is worshipped with the recitation of His thousand divine names (Sahasranama). This powerful archana is conducted with deep devotion, offering flowers or tulsi leaves at the Lord’s feet with each name chanted. The ritual begins with Sankalpam, followed by the chanting of the Vishnu Sahasranamam or Narasimha Sahasranamam by priests and devotees together. As the names are invoked, the deity is simultaneously offered deepa (lamp), dhupa (incense), and naivedyam (offerings). The entire atmosphere becomes spiritually charged, radiating divine vibrations. This evening seva is especially known for calming the mind, removing negative influences, and bringing inner peace. Devotees believe that attending or performing this archana grants Lord Narasimha’s protection, prosperity, and spiritual growth. It is an expression of bhakti and surrender, allowing one to connect with the divine in a deeply personal way.

The Sahasra Namarchana begins in the evening with devotees assembling in front of the sanctum sanctorum. The puja starts with Sankalpam, where the devotee’s name, gotra, and purpose of the offering are stated. The priest then invokes Lord Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy with Vedic chants. The Vishnu Sahasranamam or Narasimha Sahasranamam is recited, and with the chanting of each divine name, flowers or Tulsi leaves are offered at the feet of the deity. This is accompanied by deepa, dhupa, and naivedyam offerings. The atmosphere is enhanced with the sounds of bells and conch, creating a divine vibration. Devotees may also join in chanting for greater spiritual merit. After the chanting is complete, harathi is offered, followed by distribution of theertham and prasadam. The entire process is done with deep devotion and faith, seeking divine protection, peace, and fulfillment of wishes from Lord Narasimha Swamy.
