Shri Kalinath Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple - Kangra

About Shri Kalinath Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple - Kangra

Shri Kalinath Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple is an ancient and historical Shiva temple located in Kaleshwar village of Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. This temple is situated on the banks of the Beas River, and this temple is considered very important from a religious point of view. The holy water of Haridwar, Prayag, Ujjain, Nashik and Rameswaram was mixed in the pond located near the temple, so bathing here gives the virtue of Panchtirthi bath. It is believed that the pond located near the temple is associated with the Dwapar era, where the Pandavas poured holy water. Bathing here has special significance especially on the day of Baisakhi, when a state-level fair is organized. Cultural programs as well as religious rituals are also organized in this fair. The main Shivalinga of the temple is located underground, which is particularly attractive.

It is believed that in the Satyayuga, when the atrocities of the demons increased, the gods prayed to Lord Shiva for help. At that time Lord Shiva manifested Goddess Mahakali with his power, who killed all the demons. Despite this, Goddess Mahakali's anger did not subside, then Lord Shiva himself lay down on the banks of the Beas river and placed her feet on himself to calm her anger, which calmed Goddess Mahakali's anger. After this incident, this place came to be known as Kalinath Kaleshwar Mahadev.
