It is believed that Lord Narasimha manifested here in the form of a divine flame (jyot) in narasimha swamy temple. And there is also a belief that Lord Vishnu never resides alone in any place. So, along with Him, Goddess Lakshmi also resides here. "That is why it is called the Lakshmi Narasimha Temple." People come here to make a vow (mannat) for children who are not mentally or physically strong. Their wish gets fulfilled merely by having the darshan (sight) of the deity.
Those who are unable to get married also make vows here and they too receive blessings. People also perform mundan (head shaving) as a part of fulfilling their vows. There is a pond (Kunadam) there where people bathe and experience a sense of purity. At Yadagirigutta narasimha swamy temple, There is also a place there for offering donations (Hundi). Along with their donation, people also write their wishes on a piece of paper and drop it in. It is believed that this letter reaches God and He fulfils their wishes.
Mythological Significance of Sri Lakhshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple
In Treta Yuga, Sage Yadarishi, son of Rishyasrunga and Santa Devi, performed penance inside a cave on Yadagirigutta with the blessings of Lord Hanuman. In this temple Lord Narasimha appeared in five forms – Jwala Narasimha, Yogananda, Gandabherunda, Ugra and Lakshmi Narasimha. These five forms are worshipped today as the Pancha Narasimha Kshetram.
The Skanda Purana mentions the temple. Six kilometres away, one may see the brightly shining golden Sudarshana Chakra above the sanctuary. According to devotees, it possesses mystic abilities and acts independently, much like a holy compass.
Another legend says that Lord Narasimha first appeared at the foot of the hill, where Sage Yadarishi worshipped Him for many years. After the sage attained moksha, tribals continued worship, but due to improper rituals, the Lord moved into the hill caves. Later, He revealed Himself again in five majestic forms.
Worship here follows the Pancharatra Agama tradition, established by Sri Vangeepuram Narasimhacharyulu, who also composed the temple’s Suprabhatam and Stotras.
