Jal Abhishek puja is a sacred ritual involving water offered on the lingam. The puja is mostly performed in the temples. Abhishek Puja is performed to invoke the blessings of Rudra in the form of Lord Shiva. It is believed that Lord Shiva is pleased by pouring water on Shivling.
At first, Sankalp is taken by the name of the devotees. Then the pujari ji invokes Lord Shiva with the help of prayers and chanting of mantras. After that, the pujariji offer water on the Shivling following all the vedic rituals. At last, devotees take blessings of Lord Shiva.
