About

Pind Daan at bodh Gaya is a ritual performed in Gaya by offering prayers to the ancestors or the soul. The puja is an important part of Hindu funeral rites and is done to have a peaceful journey of the departed soul. This ritual is mostly performed on Pitru Paksha or death anniversary. According to the Hindu Vedas, a pind is something round in shape. This is how the term "pind daan" originated, where the soul is provided food in the shape of a round ball by his or her family as part of shradh karma. The ingredients required to make pind during Shradh Puja include barley flour or kneaded rice. These round pindas are presented to the departed as part of pind daan karma.

Take a Holy Bath: Start the ritual by taking a bath to purify yourself.

Dress Code: Wear clean, white traditional clothes like a dhoti and kurta.

Sit with the Brahmin (Priest): The ritual is done under the guidance of a Brahmin who chants holy mantras.

Prepare the Pind: Pinds are made using kneaded rice or barley flour. They are shaped into small round balls.

Offer the Pind: The pinds are offered along with rice, jaggery, sweets, and other items. These are offered to the soul of the deceased during the ritual.

Visharjan (Final Offering): The remaining ritual items are immersed (Visharjan) in holy places.

This process is followed to help the soul of the deceased find peace and liberation.
