About Amareswara Swamy Temple in Amaravathi

Amararama is one of The Pancharama Kshetras or Pancharamas temple, this are the five ancient holy temples which is dedicated to Lord Shiva in Andhra Pradesh. According to the Skanda Purana, the demon king Tarakasura possessed a powerful, indestructible Shiva Lingam. because of this divine protection no one could defeat him. in the war of devas and asuras, lord Kartikeya the son of lord shiva used his weapon, the agneyastra,to break the lingam into five pieces to kill the demon. to stop the pieces from reuniting, lord Vishnu and Surya dev ordered that they be installed and worshipped at the five different spots where they fell. these five locations become the pancharama kshetras. from this five temples one is Amararama which is located in Amaravathi, Palnadu Dis, maha shivratri is the one of the most significant festival which is celebrated in all the five temples. Karthika Masam is considered as a sacred month which is a popular for doing the tradition, to visit all five temples in a single day during this month. Each temple celebrates the annual divine wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati known as Kalyana Utsavams. large number of locals gather to celebrate this festival.
