About Arulmigu Sri Parthasarathyswamy Temple
Parthasarathy Temple is a historically and religiously important Hindu temple located in the Triplicane area of Chennai. This temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna's Parthasarathy form, where he is shown as Arjuna's charioteer. Parthasarathy Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Parthasarathy Temple was established in the 6th century by the Pallava king Narasimhavarman I. The name of the temple 'Parthasarathy' is derived from the Sanskrit words 'Partha' (Arjuna) and 'sarathi' (charioteer), which refers to Lord Krishna's charioteer form of Arjuna in the battle of Mahabharata. This temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This temple was built by the Pallava kings in the 6th century and is considered one of the 108 Divya Desams. The temple is also named 'Thiruvallikeni', which means 'a lake full of lotus flowers'. Also known as 'Brindaranyasthalam', the temple is built in the Dravidian architectural style, with intricate carvings and stucco depictions on the gopuram (main gateway tower) and mandapams. The temple also houses the Parthasarathy form of Lord Shri Krishna along with the forms of Lord Rama, Lord Narasimha, Lord Varaha and Lord Ranganatha. The temple complex also houses the shrines of Goddess Vedavalli and Goddess Andhal. Here is installed the idol of Shri Krishna made of Panchadhatu, in which he is shown with a chariot as Arjuna's charioteer.
