About Arulmigu Thiru Arthanareeswarar Temple - Tiruchengode
Arulmighu Thiru Ardhanarishwarar Temple is a famous Hindu temple located in Tiruchengode in the state of Tamil Nadu, dedicated to the Ardhanarishwar form of Lord Shiva. This temple is especially known for its architecture, religious significance and historical background. The history of Ardhanarishwarar Temple is ancient and it is dedicated to the Ardhanarishwar form of Shiva, which depicts the combined form of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. This form shows that Shiva and Parvati are two aspects of the same existence. The temple is believed to be associated with the time of the Pandavas and was established by the Pandavas. The idol of Lord Ardhanarishwarar is enshrined in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, which is in the form of half man and half woman. The architecture of the temple is built in South Indian style, in which gopuram, mandap and sanctum sanctorum are prominent. The gopuram of the temple is high and attractive, which attracts the attention of the audience from a distance. Along with the idol of Lord Ardhanarishwarar, idols of other gods and goddesses are also installed in the sanctum sanctorum. Daily worship is performed in the temple, with more devotees attending especially on Mondays and Fridays. Special worship rituals here include Abhishek, Deeparadhana and Bhajan-Kirtan. Mahashivaratri, Annabhishek and Deepavali are especially important among the major festivals held in the temple. This hill is named Sengodu because its color is red. Apart from this, it has many other names like Deivathirumalai, Nagamalai and Ursagiri. Among the stairs of the mountain, the 60th step is considered to be the most special. It is said that if you take an oath standing here, it will be accepted even in court.History says that Kedaragauri received the part of God by adorning the emerald linga. It is said that when Sambandar worshipped this path for the first time during his pilgrimage to Kongu Nadu, and then visited some other places before returning here, he lamented the 'Nalirsuram' of his followers, sang 'Avvinik Kivvini', and ordered that 'Thiruneelakkandam, the land of the gods should not be touched by the wicked,' and then destroyed the whole country.A story is narrated about this place:- Sengottuvelar came to Gunaseela, who lived here, in the guise of a cowherd boy, and claimed to be Gunaseela's apprentice. A man called Pandipulavareru said; "If there is a snake on Thiruchengode's face, why don't you spread your amari and dance?!" - sang in amazement and was so embarrassed that he could not write more about it; then, Velavan, who had come as a boy, said, "This is not the case, Namaran Kuravalli, Pangan Egugarai, Kumaran Thirumarugan of the high clan, will build a peacock vehicle" and forced Appulavan to go back. This story is said to have happened at the foot of this mountain.
