About Arulmigu Thiru Kuttralanathar Temple
Arulmigu Thiru Kuttralanathar Temple located at the scenic foothills of the Trikootamalai hills in Courtallam (Tenkasi district, Tamil Nadu), the historic Arulmigu Thiru Kuttralanathar Temple is a nearly 2,000-year-old spiritual sanctuary dedicated to Lord Shiva (worshipped as Kuttralanathar) and Goddess Parvathi (enshrined as Kuzhalvaimozhi Amman). Rich in mythological history, legends state that the legendary Sage Agastya transformed the original Vishnu idol into a self-manifested Shivalinga by pressing its head down to restore the Earth's balance during Shiva’s celestial wedding. Celebrated as one of the five sacred Pancha Sabhas (the Chitra Sabha) where Lord Shiva performed his cosmic dance, the temple features a unique conch-shaped layout and sits adjacent to the roaring Courtallam Main Waterfalls. Devotees flock here year-round to experience its divine energy, with the most famous festivals being the Chitra Pournami (April/May), the vibrant Aani Thirumanjanam (June/July), and the grand 10-day Margazhi Thiruvadhirai festival (December/January) where special chariot processions and elaborate rituals showcase the region's deep-rooted cultural heritage.
