This temple is dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan and was established in 1992. The temple is made of intricately carved stone and is spread over a sprawling garden of 23 acres. Swaminarayan Akshardham Mandir is a grand Hindu temple located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, dedicated to the teachings and life of Lord Swaminarayan. This temple is built by the BAPS organization and was established on 2 November 1992. The structure of Akshardham Mandir is spread over an area of ​​23 acres and is built with 6,000 metric tons of pink sandstone. This temple is 108 feet high, 240 feet long and 131 feet wide. The temple has 97 carved pillars, 17 domes, 8 windows and 220 stone beams. Iron or steel is not used in the temple; all the structures are built according to traditional architecture. The sanctum sanctorum of the temple houses a 7 feet tall, 1.2 tonne gold plated idol of Lord Swaminarayan. On either side of him are the idols of Swami Gunatitanand and Swami Gopalanand. Life-size idols of the four main acharyas of Swaminarayan are also installed in the four corners of the temple. Swaminarayan Akshardham is said to have been established on October 30, 1992. The temple uses traditional Hindu architecture and is decorated with intricate carvings. The temple was attacked by terrorists on 24 September 2002, in which many people were killed. The temple was rebuilt after the attack and reopened 14 days later. The temple has a 3D exhibition that depicts events from the life of Lord Swaminarayan. And Sahajanand Jal Exhibition means it is a light and sound show that presents the life and teachings of Swaminarayan. And lastly Sahajanand Van which is a beautiful garden which contains statues and artifacts symbolizing Indian culture and religiosity. Photography and videography are not allowed inside the temple premises. Bags, mobile phones and other electronic gadgets are not allowed. Smoking and tobacco consumption is prohibited in the temple. Eating is not allowed inside the temple but eateries are available outside.
