Chaubis Khamba Temple located in Ujjain is one of the popular temples with 24 pillars and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. During the 9th and 10th centuries, the temple was dedicated to Chhoti Mata and Badi Mata and is praised as a holy site among the followers of the Hindu religion. The entrance exposes the images of the defender goddesses of the temple, Mahalaya and Mahamaya sculpted on the footsteps of the temple. According to ancient tradition, it was the grand entrance gate of the majestic Mahakala-Vana. The festivals like Shukla Paksha Ashtami and Navratri are celebrated with great enthusiasm.
