Harshnath Shiv Temple - Sikar

About Harshnath Shiv Temple - Sikar

Harshnath Temple is an ancient Shiva temple located on the top of Harsh Hill in Sikar, Rajasthan. It is situated at an altitude of about 900 meters, and was built by a saint named Bhavarakt during the reign of King Vigraharaj I. In ancient times, the area had about 84 small temples dedicated to various deities like Vishnu, Surya and Yoginis. Today, only their remains are seen around the main temple. The temple is famous for its beautiful carvings and special design. Its prayer hall has four strong pillars and the main part of the temple is situated in the east direction. There used to be a statue of Goddess Parvati inside the temple. Outside the temple, a huge white marble statue of Lord Shiva's bull, Nandi Ji, is still installed, and devotees worship it here. The temple was damaged in 1679 during the Mughal rule. Later, in 1718, Rao Shiv Singh built a small temple nearby using the stones of the old temple. Even today, the temple is an active place of worship, and is especially crowded during Mahashivratri. Along with its religious significance, the temple offers a calm atmosphere and beautiful views of the Aravalli range, making it a peaceful place for visitors.
