Hatu Mata Temple - Narkanda

About Hatu Mata Temple - Narkanda

Hatu Mata Mandir is a famous temple in Narkanda, Himachal Pradesh, situated on Hatu Peak at an altitude of 3,352 m. This temple is situated in the Narkanda region of Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh, built on Hatu Peak at an altitude of about 3,400 m (≈11,200 ft) above sea level. The temple is dedicated to Maa Hatu (or Maa Bhimakali), who is considered the presiding deity of the Narkanda tribe. It is believed that Ravana's wife Mandodari was a devotee of Maa Hatu and built the temple. During the Mahabharata period, the Pandavas stayed here during their exile in Rishikalp; musically ancient stoves—Bheem ka Chulha—still exist near the temple complex, where fire once burned. Legend has it that the place where Draupadi gave up her life during her ascension to the Himalayas is also part of this area. The wood and stone architectural carvings of the temple depict mythological scenes inspired by the Ramayana–Mahabharata and Buddhist symbols.
