About Jivdani Devi Temple - Virar

Jeevdani Devi is considered to be the incarnation of Goddess Adi Shakti. This temple is situated about 60 km from Mumbai, in Virar, a hill part of Satpura in the northern Mumbai suburb, which is located about 1465 steps above the ground. A very beautiful view of Virar and its surroundings can be seen from the hill. And the main festival here is Navratri and during Navratri time there is a lot of crowd here because a large number of devotees come here to have darshan of Mata Jivdani. It is believed that at this place there used to be a temple of Goddess Ek Veera and after the destruction of the temple of Goddess Ek Veera, this temple was rebuilt and now this temple is known by the name of Goddess Jeevdani. Even today a carved stone three feet long and nine inches broad is found on the western bank of the Virar temple. It is believed that Goddess Ek Veera was first worshipped by the Pandavas. The Pandavas built many caves during their journey and in one of those caves they established Goddess Ek Veera and worshipped her. They called her Bhagwati Jivdhani (the Goddess who is the real wealth of life).
