About Kukke Subrahmanya Temple
Kukke Subrahmanya Temple is situated on the banks of the kumaradhara river in the village of Subramanya, kadaba taluk, dakshina kannada district, Karnataka. this temple is dedicated to lord subrahmanya (lord Kartikeya/murugan), worshipped here as the lord of serpents. he is uniquely depicted merged with the serpent king Vasuki and the divine serpent shesha within the inner sanctum. legend states lord subrahmanya arrived here after defeating the demon tarakasura. he provided refuge to Vasuki, the king of serpents who was hiding from the celestial bird garuda. it is believed that lord subrahmanya married devasena, the daughter of lord indra at this sacred spot. the temple is considered one of the seven holy mukthi sthales established by sage parashurama and is estimated to be over 5000 years old. champa Shashti and nagara Panchami are the major festivals celebrated here.
