About Maa Hingula Temple
The Maa Hingula Temple is a highly revered Shakti shrine, situated in Gopalprasad village near Talcher in the Angul district of Odisha, India. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Hingula, worshipped here as the divine "Fire Goddess" who manifests as a natural, holy burning flame rather than an idol. Rich in history and local folklore, ancient mythology says she acts as the cosmic fire in the kitchen of the famous Shree Jagannatha Temple in Puri, returning to Gopalprasad for her annual worship. The most famous festival celebrated here is the Hingula Yatra (or Hingula Jatra), a vibrant 9-day annual festival held during the Hindu month of Chaitra (March/April) that draws thousands of pilgrims who come to witness the sacred fire ritual and seek her blessings.
