Pasupateeswarar temple
About Pasupateeswarar temple
The Pasupateeswarar temple is located in the city of Karur, Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is known as one of the seven Sivastalams. The presiding deity of this temple is known as Pasupatheeswarar, meaning the Lord of the animals. This name comes from the legend that Kamadhenu, the divine cow who could grant any wish, worshipped Siva here to seek his blessings and received the name Aanilai from him. Another legend says that Brahma, the creator god, also worshipped Siva at this temple and hence the sacred water source (Sthala Theertham) is named after him as Brahma Theertham.
