About Ridi Viharaya - Ridigama

Ridi Viharaya is an ancient and sacred Buddhist temple located in Ridigama, Sri Lanka. It is believed to be built during the time of King Dutugemunu and is closely connected to the discovery of a silver ore (“ridi” means silver). The temple is beautifully carved into a rocky hillside and has old caves, statues, paintings, and peaceful meditation spaces. The main shrine room has stunning ancient murals that show Buddhist stories. The temple area is calm, clean, and surrounded by nature, making it a perfect place for quiet reflection.
