Shree Shishileshwara Temple
About Shree Shishileshwara Temple
The Shree Shishileshwara Temple is located in the city of Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva which is more than 800 years old. The shivling in the temple is believed to be self manifested. A legend tells that the deity used to reside on the nearby Kumaragiri hill. Every day, priests would bring water from this river (Kapila) to the temple to perform ‘abhisheka’. One day, a priest who was carrying water from this river tripped and fell. He (the priest) begged God to appear near the river, and promised to worship him daily. God was moved by his prayer and decided to reveal Himself at the spot where we see the deity now. Near the Kapila river, within the temple premises, there is a stone called ‘Sri Shila’ that is linked to this incident.
