Shree Shyam Mandir Alambazar - Kolkata

Shree Shyam Mandir, Alambazar, located at 113, Surya Sen Road, Alambazar, Baranagar, Kolkata. is a prominent Hindu temple dedicated to Khatu Shyam Baba, a revered form of Barbarik from the Mahabharata tradition. Popularly known as “Kolkata’s Khatu Dham,” the temple is one of the important destinations for Khatu Shyam devotees in Eastern India. According to the temple management, the initiative to build the temple began with Govind Murari Agarwal, a devotee originally from Garoda village in the Sikar district of Rajasthan, who later settled in the Alambazar locality of Kolkata. The temple trust states that Agarwal had been a devotee of Khatu Shyam Baba since childhood and that the idea of establishing a temple in Kolkata grew out of this long-standing devotion. The temple features beautiful Rajasthani-style architecture crafted from Makrana marble and also houses shrines dedicated to Radha-Krishna, Hanuman Ji, Lord Shiva, Maa Parvati, Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartikeya. Devotees visit the temple to seek the blessings of Khatu Shyam Baba and participate in regular puja, aarti, kirtan and other devotional activities. The temple is especially famous for Shree Shyam Janmotsav, Falgun Utsav, Phoolon Ki Holi, Janmashtami and the annual Falgun Mela, which attract a large number of devotees. Its convenient location near Dakshineswar Kali Temple and the Hooghly River makes it a significant spiritual destination for devotees visiting Kolkata.
