Shri Bhima Kali Ji Temple

About Shri Bhima Kali Ji Temple

Bhimakali Temple is a famous Hindu temple located in Sarahan, Himachal Pradesh, dedicated to Goddess Bhimakali. It is considered one of the Shakti Peethas. This temple is famous for its unique architecture, religious significance and the beauty of the Himalayas. The architecture of this temple is of Himalayan style (Kath-Kuni style) in which a great blend of wood and stones is seen. The temple is two-storeyed — the idol of Goddess Bhimakali is on the upper floor, and the idol in the old form is below. There are also temples of other deities in the temple complex, such as Raghunathji, Narasimha, Ganesha, etc. It is believed that this temple is built at the place where the left ear of Goddess Sati fell, making this place a Shakti Peeth. According to some legends, this temple was built in memory of the killing of a demon named Bhima, who was killed by the goddess, that is why the goddess was called Bhimakali. It has also been the Kuldevi temple of the rulers of Bushahr state. The old idol is not used for worship presently but a new idol has been placed for the main puja.
