Purnagiri Temple is a famous Shaktipeeth located in Tanakpur, Uttarakhand, which is situated on the Annapurna peak at an altitude of 3000 feet. This temple is located on the Annapurna peak at an altitude of about 3000 meters (about 9,843 feet) above sea level and is situated on the banks of the Sharda River. This temple is one of the Shaktipeeths of Mata Sati, where her navel fell. According to the belief of Hinduism, when Mata Sati saw Lord Shiva being insulted in the yagya of her father Daksha Prajapati, she committed suicide by jumping into the yagya kund. Lord Shiva performed the Tandava dance in the universe carrying her dead body. Wherever the various parts of Maa Sati's body fell, those places were called Shaktipeeths. Mother Sati's navel had fallen in Purnagiri, hence it is considered a Shaktipeeth.
