About Sri Simhavahini Mahankali Temple Lal Darwaja

Sri Simhavahini Mahankali Temple in Lal Darwaza, Hyderabad, is a historic and culturally significant temple dedicated to Goddess Mahankali, a revered form of Durga Devi. Established in 1809, the temple began as a modest place of worship where local farmers offered prayers under a tree. Over time, it has evolved into a significant spiritual center, especially during the Navaratri and Bathukamma festivals. The temple is renowned for its vibrant celebrations and community involvement. During the Bonalu festival, women devotees offer Bonam—a sacred offering consisting of cooked rice, jaggery, curd, and neem leaves—carried in decorated pots on their heads. This temple located in Lal Darwaza, a locality near Kachiguda and Gowlipura in Hyderabad.
