Sri Venkatraman Temple Mangalore

About Sri Venkatraman Temple Mangalore

Sri Venkatraman Temple, located on Car Street in the heart of Mangalore, Karnataka, is a famous Vaishnava temple highly valued by the Gowda Saraswat Brahmin (G.S.B.) community. For over 200 years, this holy place honoring Lord Veera Venkatesh Swamy, a form of Lord Vishnu, has served as a center of spirituality and culture. The temple follows the Madhva Vaishnavite tradition and is closely associated with the Sri Kashi Matha Sansthan.

A modest temple was built in 1736, thus beginning the history of the temple. A turning point came in 1804 when an idol of Lord Venkatesh left by a wandering ascetic was found, emanating divine fragrance. The idol was consecrated under the instructions of Srimad Vibhudhendra Teertha Swamiji, thus officially beginning the legacy of the temple. By 1816, it was known as the "Kodiyal Sri Venkataramana Temple"; "Kodiyal" is the local name for Mangalore.

Sri Veera Vitthal, Sri Lakshmi Devi, Sri Ganapati, Sri Hayagriva and Sri Garuda are among the myriad deities who call the sanctum sanctorum their home. The lively rituals and community celebrations of the annual Rathotsav (Car Festival) are much loved by many attendees. The temple is open for darshan from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Located in the Coastal Karnataka region, at Car Street, Hampankatta, Mangalore 575001, this temple remains a symbol of faith, tradition and service.
