Yellamma Temple is a Hindu goddess temple located at Balkampet in Hyderabad. Goddess Yellamma is considered the “Mother of the Universe," and she is also known as Goddess Renuka and Goddess Jagadamba. This Yellamma Devi Temple also has another small temple, towards the south side, for Pochamma Devi. Goddess Pochamma is the Kshetrapalaka of this temple. And therefore, the temple is also called Sri Yellamma Pochamma Devasthanam. Balkampet Yellamma Temple's history goes back to the 15th century. While digging a well, people found a rock with a sculpture of the goddess engraved on it. This idol was found 10 feet deep in the ground and they could not move the stone. So, a temple was built in that place. This temple has been renovated many times after that. The current temple has been standing tall for some time in the 20th century. Yellamma Jatra and Bonalu Festival are important festivals celebrated at Yellamma Temple.
