Swami Koragajja Adisthal Kuthar Temple is located in Kuthar village of Udal taluk in Karnataka state, about 15 km from Mangaluru city. This temple is the center of worship of Swami Koragajja, an important folk deity of Tulunadu region. This place is a confluence of religious faith, cultural traditions and folk beliefs. The origin of Swami Koragajja is associated with a folk tale. His father's name was Varavana Odi and mother's name was Korapolu Maire. After the death of his parents at the age of 30 days, Swami Koragajja faced hardships and eventually emerged as a powerful folk deity. He is considered to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Offering liquor, betel nut and chakkli (chakli) in his worship is a common tradition. Many people believe that his worship removes difficulties and fulfills wishes. The specialty and tradition of the temple is known as the Adisthal tradition in which Swami Koragajja is worshipped in seven Adisthal places. At six of these places, lighting lamps, installing idols or burning incense is not allowed; this tradition has been going on since ancient times. One of these places is Dekkadu Adisthal of Kuthar. And the other is Kola Anushthan in which it is a traditional ritual in which the locals worship the deity through dance, song and other cultural presentations. This ritual is conducted on special occasions and is an important religious experience for the devotees. And the entry restriction for women in the temple means that women are prohibited from entering the temple from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm. This tradition is associated with the special worship methods and cultural beliefs of Adisthal. Many famous personalities have also been coming to worship at Swami Koragajja Adisthal Temple. Recently, Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif, actor Shweta Shetty, cricketer KL Rahul and his wife Athiya Shetty offered prayers at the temple. There is a tradition of offering liquor, betel nut and chakkali in the temple. Devotees offer these items in the temple and receive them as prasad. And there are many hotels and lodges available near the temple, such as Comforts Inn, Deralakatte, which provide convenient accommodation for the devotees.
