The Konesar Temple is a classical-medieval Hindu temple complex in the Trincomalee district, a religious pilgrimage centre. The holiest of the Pancha Ishwarams of Sri Lanka, it was built in ancient times on top of Konesar Malai. It is one of the three major Hindu temples. The journey for pilgrims in the city begins from the opening of Konesar Road and passes through the courtyard temples of the complex to the deities Bhadrakali, Ganesha, Vishnu Thirumal, Surya, Ravana, Ambal-Shakthi, Murukan and Shiva. In the Dakshina Kailasa Puranam and Manmiyam works it is mentioned as Dakshina/Then Kailasam (Mount Kailash of the South).


1. Navratri:- It is a festival of 9 nights in which 9 forms of Goddess Durga (Navdurga) are worshipped.

2. Shivratri:- It is celebrated every year on the Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha of Falgun month. On this day Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married, it's also called the day of the union of Shiva-Shakti.

3. Thirukoneswaram Ther Thiruvilla Festival:- The festival begins with the hoisting of the temple's Nandi flag, which is carried from Mount Kailash. A boat festival where Lord Konesar and goddess Mathumai Ambal are taken around the temple. A holy bath is performed in the Papanasachunai holy well. Devotees are sprayed with the holy water.
