The word "Tarpan" comes from the Sanskrit word "Tarpayami," meaning "to satisfy" or "to appease". Tarpan Puja is a ritual offering of water, sesame seeds, and other ingredients to the ancestors of the devotees. It is done to satisfy and also to offer peace to the spirits of the deceased.
At first, Sankalp is taken in the name of the devotees. Pujariji chants the mantra while the Devotees offer water with mixed black sesame seeds, Kusha grass and White flowers to his/her ancestors following all the vedic ritual to satisfy them. At last, the devotees pray for the moksh of the souls of their ancestors.
