The word "Dhwaja " means flag. Dhwaja is a symbol of honor, victory and power. Dhwaja Puja is done to take divine blessings and protection from God and Goddesses. In this includes worship of a flag raised on the temple. Dhwaja puja is a medium through which divine blessings can invoked. It is beleived that Dhwaja attracts positive cosmic force.
At first sankalp is taken in the name of the devotees. Than the Dhwaja puja is done by the pujariji. At last, the Dhwaja is hoisted on the top of the temple.
