Navchandi Paath And Havan

Navchandi Path and Havan are important rituals performed in the Dhumavati temple in Varanasi. The Navchandi course includes reciting Durga Saptasati (Chandi Path) nine times, which requires blessings from the goddess Durga in different forms. The ceremony is organized to implement the divine energies of the goddess Durga and bring peace, prosperity, and spiritual welfare to the devotion. This is done especially during happiness-making occasions such as Navratri, when devotees gather in large numbers to seek blessings from the goddess. The ritual includes key components like Sankalp (intention setting), the recitation of 700 verses from the Durga Saptasati, and a Havan (fire ritual) where offerings are made into the sacred fire.

At first, Sankalpa is taken in the name of the devotees. The ritual begins with the recitation of Durga Saptashati, a sacred text consisting of 700 verses, which is often repeated nine times for intense spiritual benefit. This is followed by Havan, where ghee, grains, and herbs are poured into the sacred fire, which is considered a symbol of dedication. Kumarika Puja (for young girls) and Savasini Puja (for married women) are performed to honor the energy of women. After these steps, Aarti is performed by lighting lamps and singing devotional songs. Finally, one can recite prayers and hymns to seek the protection, blessings, and divine presence of Goddess Durga in their lives.
