Tarpan Puja in Haridwar is a sacred Hindu ritual performed to offer water and prayers to ancestors (Pitru). It is traditionally performed to express respect and gratitude towards departed family members and seek their blessings for the family.
The Tarpan Puja begins with Sankalp, in which the devotee’s name, gotra and the names of the ancestors are mentioned. The Pandit Ji then do the tarpan in which offering water, black sesame seeds, kusha grass and other traditional items are offered to the ancestors while chanting Vedic mantras. The ritual is performed at the sacred Ghat of haridwar, following traditional customs and prayers for the peace and well-being of the departed souls.
