About
Upanayana ceremony is an ancient Hindu tradition in which a boy is prepared for the beginning of his education and spiritual life. It involves wearing the sacred thread which is a symbol of responsibility, discipline and purity. The Guru gives mantras, especially the Gayatri Mantra, which is to be recited daily. Puja includes offering of havans, blessings and the observance of fasts. This ceremony is performed to lay the foundation of knowledge and good conduct in life.
At first, salnalp is taken by the name of the devotees. after that, pandit ji invokes the goddess Ganesh with chanting mantras and prayers. In Upanayan Sanskar Puja Vidhi, the place is first cleaned and Lord Ganesha is invoked. A Kalash is placed, deities are worshipped, and a sankalp (vow) is taken. The child is bathed, dressed in new clothes, and the sacred thread (Janeu) is worn. The guru teaches the Gayatri Mantra to the child. A havan (fire ritual) is performed, blessings are given by elders, and finally prasad is distributed among all present.
