Shree Shree Ma Kankaleshwari Temple

About Shree Shree Ma Kankaleshwari Temple

Shree Shree Ma Kankaleshwari Temple (also called Kankal Bari or Skeleton Kali Temple) in Bardhaman (Purba Bardhaman), West Bengal. The temple is dedicated to Ma Kankaleshwari, a fierce manifestation of Goddess Kali or Chamunda, depicted in a striking skeleton-like black basalt idol. The deity is eight-armed, seated on a lotus emerging from Shiva’s navel, with the supine form of Shiva carved beneath—emphasizing her power over creation and destruction. Major celebrations include Kali Puja, Kartik Amavasya, Durga Puja, and the annual Bhadra fair in August–September.
