Bhadrachalam Temple History

Bhakta Ramadas constructed the Bhadrachalam Temple. He travelled with some villagers he met one day who were travelling to Jatara. He saw the idol and the place. He was deeply moved. Bhakta Ramdas made the decision to erect a temple there. Because Ramdasji was poor, he requested assistance from the villagers. After harvesting, the villagers promised to pay him back. Bhakta Ramadas used Rs. 6 lakhs from revenue collection to build the temple. He did this without the permission of the Golconda Nawab. Soon after, he was arrested for using the money. Lord Rama and Lakshmana then appeared and repaid the tax. The ruler of Golconda set Bhakta Ramadas free. Lord Rama came as his servant to release devotees from prison. King Taneshah of Golconda was also touched by Lord Rama. He became a devotee and offered pearls to the deity. This is the glory of the Bhadrachalam Temple.

Bhadrachalam Temple Architecture

Lord Rama, the temple's principal deity, is exquisitely constructed and stands in the "Tribhanga" attitude rather than the "Samabhanga" stance. Sita is standing next to him, holding the lotus in one hand in Tribhanga's stance.

One of the outstanding examples of Dravidian-style architecture and craftsmanship is the Shri Sita Ramchandra Swamy Temple. The temple, which was built alongside the revered Godavari River, is encircled by a lovely religious and spiritual setting.
