The magnificent Birla Mandir of Kolkata is an ideal work of art and is one of the finest architectural beauties of the city. The whole temple has been constructed with sandstone and white marble, apart from the beautiful Radha and Krishna idols, Lord Ganesh, Lord Hanuman, Lord Shiva, ten avatars of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Durga are the other deities positioned here. The most interesting feature of this temple is the evening Aarti. A festival like Janmashtami is also celebrated at this Birla Mandir.

Kalighat Kali Temple is a Hindu temple located in Kalighat area of Kolkata, West Bengal. The is Dedicated to Goddess Kali, Kalighat Kali Temple is regarded as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas of India. According to mythology, the temple is related to Rudra Tandav of Shiva after he was angry about sacrificing his partner, Sati, after a fight with her father over not being invited for a puja ceremony at her father’s place. It is believed that Shiva carried Sati’s burnt body while performing Tandav and when various parts of the Goddess’s body fell on earth. The right toe of Sati fell at Kalighat and that’s where the temple was built later, the presiding deity here is called Kalika, after whom, the city was named Kolkata.

The Goddess also said that I would declare myself in the image and accept worship at that place. After the dream, Rani bought 30,000 acres of land for the construction of the temple, a large temple was built between 1847 A.D. to 1855 A.D.
