Temples in Srinagar

The Shankaracharya temple is located on the Shankaracharya Hill in the city of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. This hindu temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is believed to be built during the 17th or the 18th century. But the Kashmiri Hindus strongly believe the temple was visited by Adi Shankara and has ever since been associated with him; this is how the temple and hill got the name Shankaracharya.

The term kheer refers to a milk and rice pudding that is offered to propitiate the goddess. Kheer Bhawani is sometimes translated as 'Milk Goddess'. The worship of Kheer Bhawani is universal among the Hindus of Kashmir, most of them who worship her as their protective patron deity Kuladevi.

The Pandrethan temple is a Hindu temple located in the city of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple was built during the 8th century by Meru, a minister of King Partha, who was the ruler of Kashmir. It is believed that a great fire destroyed the city of Pandrethan in 960 CE. The temple as the only surving structure in the city after the fire.

The idol of the temple has 18 arms and is regarded as the presiding deity of the Srinagar. The temple was built by the Kashmiri Pandits in the year 1808 during the rule of the King Shuja Shah Durrani.
