Temples in Chennai

Parthasarathy Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is located in Chennai. The five avatars of Vishnu represented by the statues in the temple are Krishna as Parthasarathy, Yoga Narasimha, Rama, Gajendra Varadaraja and Ranganatha. The Pallavas constructed the temple in the sixth and eighth centuries. The Cholas then renovated it and the Vijayanagara kings built it again in the fifteenth century. Vaikunda Ekadesi is an important festival for this temple. November to February are the best times to visit this temple.

The Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple is located on the Chennai coastline, close to Elliot's Beach. It is the place of worship for eight (Ashta) manifestations of Maha Lakshmi in addition to Lord Lakshmi Narayana. Maha Lakshmi, Dhanya Lakshmi, Dhairya Lakshmi, Rajya Lakshmi, Santhana Lakshmi, Jaya Lakshmi, Veera Lakshmi and Dhana Lakshmi are the eight forms of Maha Lakshmi. This temple has nine distinct sanctums, with four levels containing the Ashtalakshmis, the eighth form of the goddess Lakshmi. Festival celebrations at this temple include Navratri, Diwali and Pongal. October to February are the best times to visit this Shri Ashtalakshmi Temple.

Marundeeswarar Temple is situated in Thiruvanmiyur, near the shores of the Bay of Bengal and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Every day, the temple performs six rituals at different times between 5:30 AM and 10:00 PM. Two entrances, one from East Coast Road and the other from West Tank Street, each have a five-tiered gopuram. Shivaratri, Ganesh Chaturthi and Skanda Sashti are important festivals celebrated here. The best time to visit this temple is from November to February.

The Shri Shri Radha Krishna Mandir is located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The temple is dedicated to God Krishna and Goddess Radha. The construction of the temple started in the late 1990s and was completed in 2012. Janmashtami, Radhashtami and Ratha-Yatra are important festivals celebrated at this temple. The best time to visit this temple is from October to February.

The Sri Chenna Kesava Perumal Temple is located in the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Chenna Kesava Perumal, who is known as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The dubash Beri Thimmappa, one of Madras' founders, constructed the Chenna Kesava temple in the city's first year of establishment. The Teppam festival is celebrated in this temple. The Kandaswami Temple is located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan. The temple was built in the year 1670 by Maari Chettiar. The stone temple standing today was built in the early 1800s. The Kandhakottam temple has associated educational institutions spread across multiple places, including music and dance programmes, primary and high schools, and a college. Along with social welfare projects, the Kandha Kottam Temple runs free pharmacies and medical clinics. The Silver Car Festival is a big event celebrated at this temple. January is the best time to visit this temple.

Sri Ramanatheeswarar Temple is located in Porur, Chennai and is devoted to Shiva. If you can't go to Rameswaram, you can visit the Uttara Rameswaram temple instead. It's just like Rameswaram. It is a Guru Sthalam temple. This historic temple is linked to the epic Ramayana. In this forest-like location, there is a tradition that Sri Rama rested while travelling to Lanka. Maha Shivaratri, Navarathri, Karthika Somavaram, Panguni Uthiram, Pournami, Pradoshams and Guru Peyarchi are important festivals celebrated at this temple. The best time to visit this temple is from October to February.

The Aru Padai Veedu Murugan Temple is dedicated to Lord Muruga and is situated in Besant Nagar, Chennai's Kalakshetra Colony. All six Lord Murugas are present at the temple, all known as "Arupadai Veedu" temples. Aadi Karthigai is an important festival for this temple. November to February are the best times to visit this temple.

Arulmigu Karaneeswarar Temple is located in Mylapore, Chennai and is dedicated to Shiva as Karaneeswarar. There are two different shrines housing the main deities. The temple has a small tower and, in keeping with the customs of many ancient South Indian temples, it also features a Nandi deity facing the main shrine, a flag pole and Bali Peeth. Thaipusam is an important festival celebrated at this temple. December is the best time to visit this temple.
