About
Tripindi Shraddha Puja is a traditional ancestral ritual performed to offer prayers for the peace and spiritual well-being of departed ancestors. It is especially performed when ancestral rites have been missed or when a family is advised to undertake a special Pitru karma. The ritual involves Sankalp, Tarpan, worship of deities, three Pindas, ancestral prayers, mantra recitation and Pind Daan. The exact procedure can vary according to the place and priest.
At first, Sankalp is taken in the name of the devotees. Then three Pindas are offered to the three generations of ancestors along with other things such as jaggery, ghee etc. The Pindas are placed on a Kusha grass mat. Then mantras are chanted and water offering is done to the ancestors.
