Gangotri Temple Gangotri

Gangotri is a Hindu pilgrimage site dedicated to Goddess Ganga located near a sacred stone where King Bhagiratha worshipped Lord Shiva. This temple is one of the important temples dedicated to Goddess Ganga, and it is also one of the four Chota Char Dham Yatra pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand. The temple is surrounded by deodar and pines in the Greater Himalayan Range. The holy river Bhagirathi flows along with Gangotri Temple.

The temple was built by king Amar Singh Thapa, a Gorkha general, in the early 18th century. The architecture is simple yet beautiful with an elegant white marble style, which symbolises purity. By Road 

To reach there by road, the transportation facilities from the nearby cities are made available, and the devotees can reach the temple directly by taxi or vehicle. The temple is very well connected through the roads.

By Air 

The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun, at a distance of 250 km. One needs to book the flight for this airport. From the airport, one can easily reach the temple through public transport or take a taxi.

By Rail

The nearest station is in Rishikesh Railway Station, at a distance of 234 km from the temple. You can book a ticket to this temple. The facility of public transport and taxis is available to reach the temple from the station.

Best Time to Visit Gangotri Temple

The best time to visit this temple throughout the year is in the summer months from March to October, as the temple is situated in the high tops of the hill where snowfall takes place in winter. Thus, one can visit there in the summertime.
