Temples in Somnath

The Somnath temple, also called Somanātha temple or Deo Patan, is a Hindu temple situated in Prabhas Patan, Veraval in Gujarat. It is one of the most pilgrimage sites for Hindus and is the first among the twelve jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The temple was reconstructed many times in the past after repeated destruction by multiple Muslim invaders and rulers, notably starting from an attack by Mahmud Ghazni in the 11th century. The first version of the Somnath temple's construction date remains uncertain, with estimates ranging from the early centuries of the 1st millennium to about the 9th century. Festivals Shravan, Shivratri, and Karthik Purnima are Celebrated.

Gita Mandir, located at Gaulok Dham in Somnath, is a temple dedicated to Lord Shree Krishna. It was built in the year 1970 by the Birla group. Gita Mandir is said to be at the spot where Lord Krishna rested before leaving for 'Neej Dham,' marking the end of Dwapar Yuga. The Gita Mandir is famous for its holy book Bhagavad Gita and wall paintings of Lord Krishna. The highlight of the Gita Mandir is its eighteen marble pillars, each decorated with one of the eighteen Adhyayas of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita shape and design are created on them.

Bhalka Tirtha is located in the Veraval in Saurashtra on the western coast of Gujarat, India. Bhalka located just 4 kilometres from Somnath Temple, is the place where Krishna left his body. It is said that he was killed by an arrow shot by a hunter named Jara, an act referred to in the Puranas as Shri Krishna Nijdham Prasthan Leela. Bhalka is part of the Lord Krishna. The site also has an ancient history as Prabhas Patan was occupied during the Indus Valley Civilisation, 2000–1200 BCE. Festivals celebrated are Janmashtami, Shivaratri, Shravan, Golokdham Utsav, Diwali, Kartik Purnima, and Somnath Sthapana Divas.

The Veneswar Mahadev Temple is located in the city of Somnath, Gujarat. The Temple is a part of worship and devotion to Lord Shiva. As per the legends, the Rajputa king gave Gazni a tough fight and not surrendered himself against him, Finally, Ghazni decided to kidnap his daughter named Veni, the great devotee of Lord Shiva, who visit the temple daily, As Ghazni's soldiers attacked Veni, the Shivalinga split open, swallowing the princess. The temple is now known as Veneshwar Mahadev, showing traces of Veni's hair and sword marks on the Shivalinga till today. Festivals celebrated are Janmashtami, Shivaratri, Shravan and Diwali.

Somnath jyotirling is located in the Prabhas Patan near Veraval, Saurashtra, Gujrat. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Old Somnath temple came under the rule of the Marathas in the seventeenth century. It is believed that the location of the swyambhuling came in Ahilyabai's dreams and than she started the construction of the temple immediately. People also believed that Ahilyabai temple contains the original jyotirlinga.
