Ganga Abhishek in Prayagraj is a sacred ritual in which holy water, milk and other prasad are offered to the idol or symbol of Maa Ganga to worship her. Devotees perform this ritual to show gratitude and seek blessings for purity, health and prosperity. It is believed that it washes away sins, removes obstacles and brings peace in life. Initially, the salnalpa is taken with the names of the devotees. Then, the Panditji invokes Goddess Ganga with chanting and prayers. In Ganga Abhishek in Prayagraj, the place near the river is cleaned and decorated. The idol or symbol of Maa Ganga is placed on a clean platform. Devotees offer flowers, fruits and incense, then pour Ganga water, milk, curd, honey and ghee on the idol while chanting mantras. After the abhishek, the idol is decorated with clothes and garlands. Finally, aarti is performed, prayers are offered for blessings, and prasad is distributed among all the devotees present.
