About

Vaitrani is a mythological river in the Hindu religion, which lies between the earth and hell (narak). According to Hindu mythology, the puja of the holy river Vaitrani is done to get moksh and sharnagati of the departed souls. It is done to get them relief from all the sins they have made in their life and help them on the way to heaven. An effective rite for the salvation and tranquillity of the souls of dead ancestors is Vaitarani Puja. The Vaitarani River is said to be the river that spirits must cross after death in order to enter the place of its name. This puja is considerably more successful in giving spirits of the past moksha (freedom) and removing ancestral karmas in Gangasagar, where the holy Ganga meets the ocean.

At first sankalp is made in the name of the devotee and for the person for whom the puja is being conducted. Than the daan of things like rice, water, clothes etc are done in the process of ” Mahadaan “. After that cow is worshipped with aarti and mantras and daan of food and other things are also given to the cow. This donated to the cow helps a the souls to cross the river Vaitrani.
