About

At ISKCON Nellore, Anna Danam is conducted through the Annamrita–Food for Life initiative, ISKCON’s global vegetarian food relief program. Guided by Srila Prabhupada’s vision that “no one within ten miles of an ISKCON temple should go hungry,” the Nellore chapter serves around 25,000 nutritious meals daily to schoolchildren under the Mid-day Meal scheme. Operating since October 2008 from a centralized kitchen on a 1.5-acre campus, it provides sattvic meals to over 115 schools without discrimination. Anna Danam embodies true compassion, promoting spiritual purity, equality, and dharmic welfare for society.

Anna Dānam Puja begins with achamanam (purification) and sankalpam (vow) to offer food selflessly. A kalash with mango leaves and coconut is placed for auspiciousness, and the area for cooking or serving is sanctified. Devotees light a diya, offer incense, flowers, akshat, and naivedyam to Lord Vishnu or Krishna while chanting Annadāna mahā-dānam or Vishnu Sahasranama. The food is offered mentally to the Lord before distribution. Concluding with aarti and prasadam, this sacred act brings purification, abundance, and divine grace.
