About

A Saligram Sila is a sacred, self-manifested stone representing Lord Vishnu. In the Saligram Abhishekam, the deity is bathed with water, milk, yoghurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices while chanting the Vishnu Sahasranama or Vishnu mantras. Sandalwood paste, turmeric, and essential oils are then applied. Devotees bathe beforehand, symbolizing purification of body and mind. The abhishekam water is believed to cleanse karmic impurities and offer divine protection. For details on ISKCON Nellore’s observance, devotees are advised to contact the temple directly.

Saligrama Abhishekam begins with achamanam (self-purification) and sankalpam (vow) to worship Lord Vishnu. The sacred Saligrama Shila is placed on a clean metal plate with a tulsi or peepal leaf base. Abhishekam is performed with water and panchamrit—milk, curd, honey, ghee, and sugar—while chanting Vishnu mantras or the Vishnu Sahasranama. Sandalwood, turmeric, and rose water are offered, followed by tulsi, flowers, and aarti. The charanamrita is shared as prasadam, bestowing peace, liberation, and divine blessings.
