About
ISKCON Nellore maintains the Sri Krishna Balram Goshala, a sacred cow shelter rooted in traditional Vedic values. Here, devotees lovingly provide cows with food, shelter, medical care, and gentle service, an act revered as divine. The Shrimad Bhagavatam describes that Lord Krishna Himself is present within the cows. The goshala’s mission focuses on promoting love and respect for cows, advancing cow protection, and ensuring their safety, nourishment, and care. Performing Gau Dānam (cow donation or service) here is considered a deeply purifying act, bringing spiritual merit (punya), relieving karmic debts, and preserving dharmic traditions, uplifting both devotees and cows in a spirit of compassion and devotion.
At ISKCON Nellore, Gau Dānam Puja begins with achamanam (purification) and sankalpam (vow) to serve or offer a cow with devotion. The cow is gently bathed with water, turmeric, or milk, then adorned with haldi, kumkum, flowers, and a fresh cloth. Devotees light dhoop and a deepa, chanting Go Mata and Sri Krishna mantras. Offerings such as green grass, bananas, and jaggery are made, while priests chant Go Suktam for blessings. The donation—food, ghee, money, or a cow itself—is then offered reverently. The ceremony concludes with prasadam and touching the cow’s feet, invoking dharma, compassion, and spiritual upliftment.

Benefits of Puja
The Vedic scriptures describe Gau Dānam—the offering or service to cows—as one of the most sacred and compassionate acts. Performing Gau Dānam Puja brings immense spiritual merit (punya), purifies the mind and heart, and cultivates compassion and humility. It is believed to remove obstacles from one’s life, cleanse sins from past births, and attract divine blessings from Lord Krishna, who deeply loves and protects cows. This puja promotes longevity, prosperity, harmony, and safety for the family. By supporting and caring for cows, devotees uphold dharma, protect nature, and maintain ecological balance. Participating in Gau Dānam also strengthens ISKCON Nellore’s mission of cow protection (Go Raksha), service, and spiritual upliftment for all.
