Varshik Shradh Puja Vidhi in Ujjain is a ritual where offering is made to the ancestors like food, water and their favourite items. It is mainly done to satisfy the unfulfilled wants of spirits. The Shradh is done for mainly one ancestor and prayers include the last three generations of the ancestors from both father’s and mother’s sides. This ritual is done in order for the spirits of the ancestors to find peace and moksha. The duration of Shradh is usually 15 days, although it can be shorter or longer depending on individual beliefs and regional customs.
At first devotees take a bath in the holy river. Than sankalp is taken in name of the devotees. Than 12 Kalash is establish by pujariji and pinds placed on them. Than Pind Daan is done by offering rice, jaggery, sweets, etc. under the guidance and mantras of the pujari. Then devotees offers sweets and clothes to the pujari with south side face. At last devotees share food with crow, cow, ants and dogs and the puja is completed.
